VIA NOVA NATURE TRAIL
The first section of the Nature Trail runs entirely through the Baixa Limia-Serra do Xurés Natural Park, which is part of the Transboundary Biosphere Reserve and the Xurés-Gerês International Park, between Portugal and Spain.
It follows the Caldo River and later runs along the Limia River valley, finding along the way numerous vestiges of the presence of Rome, such as the milestones of Ponte Nova, ancient stone columns that were placed on the edges of the Roman roads to mark distances, or the remains of the mansio of Aquis Originis, a type of building that served as a stop for travelers using the Roman road.
The second section of this natural path is intimately linked to the Limia River: during the first kilometers in the form of the Conchas reservoir, then squeezed between mountains and from A Ponte Liñares opening up to an extensive fertile plain covered with cultivated fields. As it ended in the previous section, the route continues passing between the places that form the parishes of the area, discovering the ethnographic richness of the regions of La Baixa Limia and La Limia. The Roman vestiges associated with the Via Nova will also continue to be frequent, with a branch through which you can (if the waters of the reservoir of Las Conchas allow it) visit the archaeological site of Aquis Querquennis and its interpretation center.
