SAN ROSENDO ROAD
The route runs along a secondary Roman road, connecting small villages and old paths where specimens of centenary chestnut trees stand out. Rubiás is an outstanding point, built on the important castro of Rubiás, site of findings such as the Head of the Warrior from the 1st century AD. Throughout the route, we will find "petos de ánimas", "hórreos" and chapels that reflect the rich heritage of Bande. The capital, although outside the itinerary, is a town that deserves to be visited and to see the oak trees of A Sementeira or the parish church of San Pedro. From there, the route heads towards Celanova, passing through the Alto del Vieiro. TO NOTE: - This route of the Way of Saint James of San Rosendo and Raínha Santa links Braga with Ourense, connecting with the Silver Route. - It is recommended to carry water and visit the fountains in the villages. - The municipality has a taxi service, accommodation and restaurants. ELEMENTS OF INTEREST: The municipality of Bande stands out for its unique wealth of heritage. The Visigothic church of Santa Comba is one of its greatest treasures, together with the Roman camp of Aquis Querquennis, the Roman mansio and the thermal baths at Porto Quintela. The Roman Way XVIII connects these places, passing through forests of broadleaf and centenary chestnut trees between Vilela and Bande, where the Vilela Chapel is located. The river Limia and the Embalse das Conchas reservoir add to the natural beauty. The village of Rubiás, located above the old castro, offers an ethnographic collection of wooden hórreos (raised granaries). Other points of interest are the Chapel of San Antonio de Recarei, the Church of San Pedro, the catalogued oak trees of Bande and the Fountain of Alto do Vieiro. COMPLEMENTARY ACTIVITIES: The Xurés Market, held on the first Sunday of every month, is an opportunity to discover local products. Among the outstanding routes are the Roteiro do Monte Grande, which includes an archaeological classroom, mámoas, petroglyphs and the foxo do lobo de las Cobateiras; various hiking routes such as the Roteiro dos Petos, the Gran Ruta Transfronteriza Gerês-Xurés, the Sendero del Río Badella and the Bande-Leboreiro route. It is essential to visit the Aquis Querquennis Interpretation Centre and the archaeological site of the Roman camp, which offers guided tours, as well as the Porta de Bande Visitor Centre, dedicated to Roman history. Finally, the Thermal Baths of Porto Quintela are the finishing touch to the day.
