ROUTE OF THE THREE CHAPELS
The Ruta das Tres Capelas de Ramirás runs through the Sierra de Silvaoscura or da Moura, combining history, religious architecture and nature. It starts at the unique Chapel of San Xoán de Penosiños, from where it begins a slight ascent to the Coto da Moura (940 m above sea level), an ancient mountain blessed by the chapels of San Adrián and San Paio dos Pitos. These chapels stand out for their traditional architecture, while the panoramic views over the Arnoia river valley add a special charm. The route combines culture and landscape in a unique experience, perfect for lovers of hiking and Galician traditions. PLEASE NOTE: - Bring enough water, there are no water points en route. ELEMENTS OF INTEREST: The Ruta das Tres Capelas in Ramirás stands out for its historical and natural wealth. The chapel of San Xoán de Penosiños (17th-18th centuries) marks the beginning of a route full of charm. The chapel of San Adrián, in Alto da Moura, is located in a mountain range with a wide visual domain over the valley of the river Arnoia, where popular religiosity is still alive and festive. This place, known as Sierra da Moura or Silvaescura, connects the municipalities of Celanova, Quintela and Ramirás. The San Paio dos Pitos Recreational Area, with a chapel from the 17th-18th centuries, celebrates every 26th July a pilgrimage dedicated to San Paio, protector against animal diseases and back pains, keeping the tradition alive. COMPLEMENTARY ACTIVITIES: Ramirás is a destination that combines history, nature and tradition. Its attractions include rural chapels and monumental churches, such as the Monastery of San Pedro (10th century), near San Paio dos Pitos, which preserves the transition to Romanesque. The Camino Real Vigo-Madrid Royal Road is a great excursion to discover traditional and religious architecture. The recreational area of A Pontenova, located on the river Arnoia, offers a river beach with services and easy access. The waterfalls of O Piago on the river Tuño and the irrigation channels of A Corredoira, the first irrigation system in the Peninsula managed by the monks of Celanova, complete a unique experience in Ramirás.
