ROUTE OF THE GORGUA MILLS
The route, where water is the main protagonist, starts from the recreational area of Freáns and runs along the river Gorgua. The old mills, located at different points along the route, reflect the rural past and the use of natural resources by the local inhabitants. These ethnographic elements, many of them restored, add charm and a unique cultural value to the route. The route combines the beauty of waterfalls and rapids with the soothing sound of the river, creating an immersive experience in the heart of nature. The trails are surrounded by native vegetation, with trees and bushes forming a green corridor ideal for rest and relaxation. It is a perfect spectacle to immortalise with your photographic equipment. PLEASE NOTE: - During the rainy season some sections of the path may be slippery - There are two water points en route: one in the village of Monterredondo and the other in the village of Lapiñeiras. ELEMENTS OF INTEREST: The religious complex of San Xoán de Monterredondo stands out, a historical testimony that invites you to discover the cultural richness of the area. The old Royal Road to Celanova, which is part of this route, adds a special historical value, connecting natural landscapes and traditions. One of the most attractive points is the Mirador de Quinta, from where you can contemplate spectacular views of the surroundings, enveloped in a unique tranquillity. The waterfalls, such as those of Pereiras or Crespos, are authentic natural jewels that dot the route, surprising for their beauty. The mills reflect the sustainable use of water in times gone by. Finally, the fountain and washhouse of Monterredondo complete this unforgettable experience. COMPLEMENTARY ACTIVITIES: In the heights of the mountain range, the Raia Seca stands out, with privileged views, and in autumn, the rutting of the Sierra de Leboreiro is a unique spectacle. As a fluvial reserve of the European Community, the rivers Barxas and Troncoso are ideal for discovering the natural wealth. The Troncoso River Footpath and the Miñoto Ribeiro Jacobean Way invite you to go hiking, while the Lodairo Viewpoint offers incredible panoramic views. Religious diversity includes the churches of Santa María de Gorgua, San Xoán de Crespos, A Portela and the old Chapel of A Pena, as well as the cross of A Vila.
